Abhijit Vasant Kale (born July 3, 1973 in Ahmednagar) is a former Indian cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm offbreak bowler. .
Kale began his career in 1992 for the Indian Under-19s against New Zealand. But in first class cricket, he could not find a regular place in the Mumbai cricket team and hence moved to Maharashtra cricket team, for which he played during the mid-nineties and averaged nearly 60 runs per innings. During the November 2001 tour against England, he managed to top-score for the Indian team, which brought him into the consciousnesses of the selectors.
His next tour, in 2003 against the West Indies, rewarded him with another shot at performing, until an incident after just one game in November 2003. Playing for a British club, Kale recently hit 39 runs – including six sixes in a row – off a single over in Kent, England. His achievement was helped by the fact that there were nine deliveries in the over, including three no balls. Playing for Kent League Division 3 team Linden Park against Catford Wanderers, Kale made 152 not out for his side's 247. Linden Park then bowled out Catford for 134. Kale scored a single off bowler Damion Grosscel's first ball, which was then matched by batting partner Michael Brown. Then came a two by Abhijit – followed by six consecutive sixes.
